HAMMER ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES

ALASKA'S FIRST PRIVATELY OWNED, PUBLICLY AVAILABLE UVOST PROVIDER

Environmental Drilling

In addition to performing site investigations with the UVOST, Hammer Environmental Services can perform more traditional environmental drilling services.  Hammer Environmental employs a Geoprobe™ 6610DT direct-push tract vehicle. Direct-push drilling uses percussion power to essentially ‘hammer’ sampling equipment (Macro-Core samplers) into the subsurface to extract soil for laboratory analysis. Soil retrieved can be analyzed for any number of contaminants, for any number of soil analysis methods.

Although direct-push has limits in respect to power, and consequently sample depths, the ability of the tract vehicle to get into and sample in tight and hard-to-reach locations make it an attractive tool. Direct-push is also far quicker and easier to obtain multiple soil samples from shallow depths. The Geoprobe™ 6610DT can also install temporary and permanent groundwater monitoring wells. The subsurface is bore with 3.25-in probe rods (DT325 system) and 1.5-in inner diameter pre-packed well screens are lowered and secured in-place with PVC risers. Wells can be temporarily developed, sampled, and then removed or permanently developed for multiple groundwater sampling events.

Hammer Environmental also has a much smaller Geoprobe™ 540MT direct-push drill unit (photo pending).  Follow the link below for more information regarding the 540MT;

 www.geoprobe.com/products/machines/5400_series/540m/540mdesc.htm

The 540MT is an extremely portable drill unit, weighing only 900+ lbs.  With the additional hydraulic power unit, hoses and tooling, the 540MT can squeeze in at under 1,700lbs for small aircraft transportation.  This unit is advertised as 20 to 25-ft of subsurface penetration; translated into Alaskan as 10 to 12-ft.  But, for hard to get to remote areas with shallow groundwater, this unit may be just perfect.
