ALASKA'S FIRST PRIVATELY OWNED, PUBLICLY AVAILABLE UVOST PROVIDER
What is a UVOST™??
Well, it’s not a large ship. The UltraViolet Optical Screening Tool (UVOST™) uses laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) technology to efficiently delineate petroleum, oil, and lubricant (POL) contaminants in the subsurface. All the usual forms of POLs, including; gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, creosote, coal tar, and hydraulic fluids, can be detected via the fluorescence response of their polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) constituents. The fluorescence signal is directly proportional to concentration.
Sound Great. So, What is Laser Induced Fluorescence Technology??
Fluorescence is a property of some compounds where absorbed light stimulates the release of photons (light) of a longer wavelength. Fluorescence, a property of many aromatic hydrocarbons, can be used to detect small amounts of substance in/on a much larger matrix. This method has been used in laboratories for decades. Now, with the availability of high power light sources and optical fibers, UVOST™ has brought this technology to the field.
For a more technical outline of the UVOST (or formerly the ROST), read the enclosed 1995 EPA Verification Report (just click on the text).
Major Benefits of UVOST™:
• Typical detection limit of < 100 ppm.
• Operates effectively above and below the saturated zone.
• Fast -productivity of approx. 25-ft per hour.
• 1-inch data density with instantaneous results
• Color-coded logs for clear qualitative data.
• Waveforms offer product verification.
• Advanced UVOST™ data analysis service allows custom analyte isolation and/or interference rejection in the logs.
• Direct-Push deliverable- UVOST™ can go anywhere a Geoprobe™ can go.
